On September 16th to 19th, 2024, in Budapest, Hungary, four esteemed researchers from GECAD—Dr. João Soares, PhD student José Almeida, Dr. Pedro Faria, and Professor Zita Vale—participated in the 22nd International Conference on Intelligent Systems Applications to Power Systems (ISAP 2024), which explores the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in modern power systems.
João Soares presented two papers with the following titles “Optimal Switching Sequence with a Specialized Tabu Search Algorithm” and “Optimizing Energy Costs in Energy Communities: A Monthly Tariff Clustering Approach.” José Almeida participated in a technical visit to the high-voltage laboratory at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) and presented two works titled “Differential MAP-Elites Considering Energy Resource Management Behaviors in Power Distribution Networks” and “Community-Based Energy Sharing using Game Theory Approaches for Benefit Distribution.” Pedro Faria also gave two paper presentations titled “Analysis of the Consumption and Sensors Features Contribution to the Consumption Forecast Using Explainable AI in Buildings” and “Virtual sensor for door opening detection and anomaly detection using machine learning.”
GECAD helped co-organize multiple panel sessions such as “Machine learning and forecasting in power and energy systems,” with Zita Vale and Pedro Faria being chairs of this session, “AI for power and energy systems and electricity markets operation” chaired by Zita Vale and João Soares and “AI-based models for power and energy systems simulation and management,” which João Soares and Pedro Faria both had the pleasure to chair. Professor Zita, president of ISAP also coordinated many council and board meetings at this conference.
João Soares also received the very first Dagmar Niebur Award for Distinguished Service.
The researchers are grateful to participate in this global conference, which is an inspiring platform for sharing breakthroughs, fostering collaboration, and exploring cutting-edge applications in energy systems.
