João Soares and Sérgio Ramos from GECAD (Research Group on Intelligent Engineering and Computing for Advanced Innovation and Development), ISEP (Institute of Engineering of Porto), participated at the 15th International Conference on Power, Energy, and Electrical Engineering (CPEEE 2025) presenting 3 research papers. The event was held in Fukuoka, Japan, from February 15 to 17, 2025 where more than 100 papers have been presented.
One of the presented papers received the Best Paper Award during the event. The paper is a joint effort resulting from the existing collaboration between GECAD/ISEP and Honda Research Institute – Europe.
The awarded research paper is titled “Optimal Formation of Energy Communities under Technical-Spatial Constraints,” co-authored by Ehsan Aliyan, José Almeida, Steffen Limmer, Sérgio Ramos (presenter), and João Soares. The study presents innovative methodologies for organizing energy communities while addressing spatial and technical limitations, contributing to developing sustainable and efficient energy systems. Sérgio Ramos also chaired the session “Distributed Energy Collaborative Optimization and Advanced Energy Storage Systems”.
In addition, João Soares received the Best Presentation Award in the Digital Operation and Decision Analysis of Modern Power Grid session.
GECAD takes the opportunity to acknowledge their funders, namely Honda Research Institute Europe and SATCOMM project for the support. SAtCOMM is under the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme and European Regional Development Fund (EAPA_0019/2022 – SAtComm). SATCOMM focuses on advancing smart energy technologies and fostering sustainable energy practices across the Atlantic region.
